Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 break cover

British marque Triumph Motorcycles has unveiled the all-new Scrambler 400X and Speed 400. Co-developed with Bajaj Auto, both are the most affordable motorcycles in the brand's lineup. Since Triumph has partnered with Bajaj, the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X will be manufactured at Bajaj Auto's Chakan plant in Pune, Maharashtra.

Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400: Engine, power output, and gearbox

Powering Triumph's brand spanking new Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 is a 398.15cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine generating 40PS at 8000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6500rpm. Paired with this new engine is a six-speed gearbox.

Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400: Design and colours

The new Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 bear a design language and graphics that is reminicent of the other Triumph models. Both models also carry a somewhat neo-retro look with a handful of modern touches, such golden USD forks. While both motorcycles appear identical, Triumph has made a few changes to create a distinction between them. The Speed 400 is a proper roadtser, while the Scambler 400X, as the name suggests, features a scrambler-style design elements. The latter comes with a distinctive exhaust, split seats, hand guards, and Metzeler Karoo Street tyres instead of Metzeler Sportec M9RR.

The Speed 400 will be available with three dual-tone paint schemes: Carnival Red, Caspian Blue and Phantom Black. Whereas, the Scrambler 400X will be offered with Matt Khaki Green with Fusion White, Carnival Red with Phantom Black, and Phantom Black with Silver Ice colours.

Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400: Specs and electronics

The new Triumph motorcycles come equipped with ride-by-wire, traction control, dual-channel ABS, all-LED lights, a new semi-digital instrument cluster, which comprises a large analogue speedometer with an LCD screen, showing tachometer, fuel range readout, and gear position indicator.

Triumph has bestowed the Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 with 43mm USD front forks with 150mm travel and a mono-shock with 130mm wheel travek and preload adjustment. The Scrambler 400X gets a 320mm single disc with four-piston calliper, while the Speed 400 has a 300mm single disc with four-piston calliper. Both bikes come with 230mm single disc brake at the rear.

The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X have a seat height of 790mm and 835mm, respectively. It is to be noted that the former weighs 179kg, while the Speed 400 weight is rated at 170kg.

Triumph Scrambler 400X and Speed 400: Prices and launch

The prices of the new Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 could range between Rs 2.70 lakh to Rs 3.30 lakh. Notably, Triumph will launch the new Scrambler 400X and Speed 400 in India on 5 July, 2023.
