After having launched the new-gen BMW X1 crossover in India earlier this year, BMW has now debuted the most powerful version of the X1 in the form of the M35i xDrive variant. The X1 is the entry-level into the BMW SUV portfolio and this new all-wheel drive version of the car will go on sale later this year. While not a full-fledged X1 M, this treatment comprises more than just M emblems and adds a more powerful engine, better brakes, standard adaptive dampers, and sporty external add-ons.

BMW X1 M35i xDrive: Design

The large kidney grille with glossy black paint, accompanied by sharp LED ring headlights with LED daytime running lights, gives the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive a muscular appearance. With its massive black intakes and muscular creases, the front bumper appears aggressively sculpted.

The side profiles are pretty tidy, and the car is equipped with large gloss grey-painted 19-inch or optional 20-inch wheels. They have distinctive red brake callipers. The big black diffuser and quad-round-tipped exhausts further contribute to the SUV's macho appearance.

BMW X1 M35i xDrive: Powertrain

The 2024 X1 M35i comes standard with a higher-output version of the basic xDrive28i model's turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four engine. It uses the same Miller cycle as the normal engine but develops 316PS and 400 Nm of torque. The M35i comes standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, as well as a limited-slip differential. Adaptive dampers are standard, while BMW's M compound brakes are available as an option.

This configuration results in a 5.2-second sprint to 100 kmph and an electronically controlled top speed of 250 kmph.

BMW X1 M35i xDrive: Interior

Inside, the X1 M35i is the first BMW to use its new OS 9 operating system, as well as the newest iDrive with fast choice. There's lots of Alcantara, aluminium, and leather in the interior, as well as enough 'M' emblems.

The BMW X1 range in India starts from Rs 45.90 lakh for the sDrive18i xLine. We're not quite sure if this new X1 will make it to India but seeing that BMW is offering most of their high-performance vehicles here right now, we just might get lucky.
