Mercedes-Benz is saying goodbye to the V8 engine inside the G500. The German automaker has now released the G 500 Final Edition, which commemorates three decades of the original 500 GE V8 engine and, as the name implies, marks the end of the V8 engine in the G 500. The 'Final Edition' will be restricted to 1,500 units.

The Mercedes-Benz G500 Final Edition is available in three colour options, each of which is limited to 500 copies. Paint options for prospective purchasers include Obsidian Black, Opalith White Mango, and Olive Magno. A 'Final Edition' sticker is also included, as is a chrome contour for the spare wheel cover. It has 20-inch AMG alloy wheels in a double 5-spoke design, body-coloured on the Olive Magno paint hue and black with a high shine finish on the others.

When you open the doors, you'll be welcomed by the "G" logo and the slogan "Stronger than time" projected into the floor. The latter sentence is also printed on the indoor vehicle cover that comes with the most recent G500 V8. The wording "Final Edition" appears on the door sill trims and grab handles, as well as on the back of the key.

Nappa leather covers practically every surface inside the Mercedes G500 V8, including the luggage box and the panel containing the seat adjustment controls. The car is outfitted with a Burmester surround sound system, two-tone seats, and a leather headliner. The centre area of the headliner includes diamond stitching that matches the centre of the seats.

Under the hood, the twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 continues to produce 421PS and 610 Nm of torque. Mercedes will produce the final V8-powered G500 automobiles between September and March 2024.

For the time being, the combustion-engined G-Class will be joined by a totally electric EQG on the same chassis, replete with a boxy appearance.
